Information Technology (IT) Manager

We are looking for someone that can help perform all levels of IT support for a fast growing laboratory.  The ideal candidate will be experienced with helping design and maintain a HIPAA compliant computer server.  In addition, the candidate will have had experience in the customization and interface of laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to various physician office EMR systems and to various types of testing equipment using HL7.  However the candidate must understand we are small company, so the ideal candidate will have to wear many hats and will not have a large team of people to relay on.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, or related field
  • Three to five years experience in network administration, troubleshooting, or system administration
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Exchange 2003, Office XP (and higher), network/local printers, networking topologies, and Symantec Backup Exec
  • MCSA or MCSE preferred, but not required. Familiarity with SAN, NAS, Mac, Linux, and SQL experience is beneficial
  • Effective project manager with ability to organize resources to accomplish a strategic goal
  • Knowledgeable in IT management in a laboratory environment including LIS, HIPPA compliant, and laboratory billing software
  • Programming experience is preferred but not required
  • Ability to manage complex projects to make sure things get done on time and on budget.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain all computer hardware and software in the laboratory in good working order
  • Oversee development and implementation of new software and hardware platforms to streamline laboratory functions
  • Interface laboratory software with doctors offices to allow for on-line tests orders
  • Maintain current user accounts, security groups, distribution lists, and other active directory components for the laboratory
  • Ensure that all Windows based systems are patched and up to date
  • Maintain file, print, web, and anti-virus servers
  • Maintain an effective backup disaster recovery, and business continuance plan
  • Provide escalated support for desktops, printers, and other technology as needed
  • Work with the Laboratory Manager to track and maintain hardware, software, and printer inventories and resolve any issues related to IP addressing or network communication problems
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues internally and externally for client computers, servers, and outside entities
  • Assist the Director of Laboratory Operations with identifying, specifying, and procuring hardware, software, and printers
  • Identify and advises management/administration on current issues in information technology and emerging technologies as they relate to higher education
  • Participate in on-call night and weekend rotation for technical emergencies
